The Cannock Chase Geotrail is a 36km circular route (we do not recommend that you attempt this all in one go) covering the geology and geomorphology of Cannock Chase. It runs from Satnall Hills, past Brocton, Birches Valley to Castle Ring, returning via Brereton, Slitting Mill, Etching Hill, Wolseley Bridge, Great Haywood and Shugborough. The route is mostly in the Lower Triassic conglomerates of the Chester Formation but also incudes the Triassic Helsby Formation sandstones and some Carboniferous Coal Measure strata in the north, east and south of the area.
