Wollaston Ridge Quarry SSSI

Wollaston Ridge Quarry: SO 883848

The site lies to the west of Stourbridge part way along a ridge formed by pebble beds of the Kidderminster Formation (Triassic), formerly known as the Bunter Pebble Beds. The exposure shows the Kidderminster Formation lying unconformably on the considerably older Bridgnorth Sandstone (Lower Permian) and demonstrates the contrasting wind-blown and water-born sediments of the Bridgnorth Sandstone and Kidderminster Formation respectively. An important feature here is the occurrence of eroded, cemented fragments of Bridgnorth Sandstone included within the pebble beds of the Kidderminster Formation.
