Milford Quarry: SJ 977191
This old gravel pit provides excellent three-dimensional exposures of the Lower Triassic Bunter Pebble Beds (Cannock Chase Formation). These texturally mature conglomerates are arranged into laterally continuous sheets; large-scale crossstratification is seen in these in the lower part of the quarry faces but they are more usually internally structureless. The gravels are interpreted as the deposits of a braided river system which flowed northward into the Cheshire Basin area.
